Astronauts Return After Nine-Month Space Mission
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt opened the briefing by celebrating the return of NASA astronauts Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Sunita "Suni" Williams after an extended 300-day mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
Originally slated for an eight-day mission starting June 5, 2024, their return was delayed due to technical issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft. The astronauts finally landed off the coast of Florida on March 18, 2025, aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule.
Leavitt placed the blame for the delay squarely on the Biden administration, citing a lack of urgency in addressing the astronauts’ predicament. She contrasted this with President Trump’s decisive action upon returning to office, directing NASA and SpaceX to expedite their return. President Trump is expected to welcome the astronauts at the White House following their recovery.
President Trump Engages in Peace Talks with Russia and Ukraine
Leavitt provided a detailed update on President Trump’s diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The President held separate phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss a ceasefire and potential long-term peace agreements.
According to the White House, both Putin and Trump agreed that the conflict should be resolved through diplomatic negotiations. Zelensky and Trump’s conversation focused on military aid, a partial ceasefire, and a broader agreement on security matters. President Trump promised continued air defense support for Ukraine, including working with European partners to secure additional Patriot missile systems. Negotiators from both nations will meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss the details of a broader ceasefire, with the goal of a full peace settlement.
Leavitt emphasized that under President Trump’s leadership, the United States is closer than ever to achieving peace in Ukraine, a stark contrast to the ongoing conflict under the previous administration.

A major revelation in the briefing was the Trump administration’s decision to release approximately 880,000 pages of previously classified documents related to the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy. The documents are now available for public access through the National Archives, with efforts underway to digitize the records for online viewing.
Leavitt stated that this release reflects President Trump’s commitment to transparency and fulfilling his promise to restore trust in U.S. intelligence agencies. The administration encourages historians and researchers to analyze the documents to shed further light on one of the most debated assassinations in American history.
Economic Growth and Deregulation Under Trump
Leavitt highlighted a series of economic indicators that she said reflect the immediate impact of President Trump’s pro-growth agenda. She pointed to a surge in industrial production in February 2025, surpassing expectations by threefold and reaching record levels.
Newsweek recently reported that gas prices have plummeted under Trump’s administration due to increased domestic energy production and deregulation. The administration’s National Energy Dominance Council is working to further expand American energy independence.
The administration also touted its success in appointing a record 281 Senate-confirmed officials within the first 58 days of Trump’s presidency, with another 280 appointments in progress. Leavitt described this as a testament to the high caliber of professionals eager to work for President Trump.

Mass Deportation Campaign Continues
Leavitt announced new developments in the administration’s mass deportation campaign, focusing on the removal of illegal alien criminals. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the arrest and extradition of Francisco Javier Roman Bardelas, a senior leader of the MS-13 gang.
ICE operations in multiple cities led to the arrests of criminals convicted of violent crimes, including rape, sexual battery, and assault with a firearm. Leavitt blamed the previous administration for allowing these individuals to enter the country and assured the public that President Trump’s strict immigration policies are making the nation safer.
She also addressed a U.S. District Judge’s ruling that temporarily halted deportation flights to El Salvador, calling the decision a partisan effort to obstruct Trump’s immigration agenda. The administration is appealing the ruling and remains committed to using the Alien Enemies Act to remove dangerous individuals from American soil.
Judicial Criticism and the Call to Impeach Activist Judges
Leavitt took aim at the judiciary, accusing federal judges of partisan activism aimed at slowing President Trump’s policies. She noted that 67% of injunctions issued this century have targeted Trump, with 92% coming from Democrat-appointed judges.
When asked about the feasibility of impeaching judges over such rulings, Leavitt confirmed that President Trump supports efforts to remove judges he believes are overstepping their authority. She emphasized that judicial activism is undermining the will of the American people who reelected Trump to implement his policies.

Tesla Under Attack: Federal Response to Violence Against Elon Musk’s Company
Another topic of concern was a series of violent attacks targeting Tesla. Dealerships have been vandalized, Tesla vehicles have been set on fire, and even Tesla owners have been doxxed online. Attorney General Pam Bondi is investigating these incidents as acts of domestic terrorism.
Leavitt condemned the violence and suggested that Tesla is being targeted due to Elon Musk’s political alignment with Trump. She called on Democrats to denounce the attacks, noting that Tesla was once a favorite among liberals before Musk’s political shift.
Potential War Declaration Against Drug Cartels
A reporter asked if President Trump would consider urging Congress to declare war on drug cartels to strengthen his legal authority for deportations under the Alien Enemies Act. While Leavitt did not confirm such a move, she defended Trump’s use of executive powers to expel cartel-affiliated criminals from the U.S.
Federal Agency Overhaul and the Removal of Bureaucratic Resistance
Leavitt addressed recent efforts to restructure federal agencies, specifically mentioning the attempted takeover of the United States Institute for Peace by the Department of Government Efficiency (DGE), a new agency spearheaded by Elon Musk.
She accused career bureaucrats of attempting to block Trump’s agenda by barricading themselves inside the building, disabling phone lines, and refusing to vacate their offices. Supreme Court Leak Investigation Still Unresolved
Leavitt also criticized the Supreme Court for failing to identify the leaker of the 2022 draft opinion that led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. She reiterated President Trump’s stance that leakers within the government must be held accountable.
